We’ve backed off in good faith to try and give you a chance to straighten this problem out. But I am going to beg with you for a minute. I'm going to plead with you, do not cross us. Because if you do, the survivors will write about what we do here for 10,000 years.”

Dogwood Vietnam Memorial Rededication

The annual rededication of the Dogwood Vietnam Memorial will take place on Friday, April 20.  The formal ceremony will start at 1100 but members are advised to arrive early to secure a parking place.  Details on parking arrangements and a map will be provided in the March newsletter and on our web site.  Please wear your red cover.

Additional Plaques To Be Purchased For The Dogwood Vietnam Memorial

On another Vietnam Memorial related topic, we raised $1570 in the silent action held during last November’s Marine Corps Birthday Party.  The proceeds of the silent auction are dedicated to the purchase of memorial plaques for the Vietnam Memorial.  These metal plaques are engraved with a photo and brief biography of each of the local servicemen who lost their lives in the Vietnam War.   This year’s proceeds will allow us to purchase two more plaques.

Marine War Dog Care Packages

Marie Taylor reported that the semi-annual effort to send care packages to the Marine War Dogs and their handlers is underway.  In our March meeting we will decide if we want to match our previous $500 contribution from 2017 with an ongoing $500 contribution on a semi-annual basis.

Annual Spring Picnic and Holiday Dinner-Dance

Hank Trautmann, our Adjutant/Paymaster, is already busy with the planning for our two major social events the year.  He has already placed deposits with the Elks club for both events; but, these are refundable if we decide to choose a different place.

We normally hold our Spring Picnic on the third Thursday of June; but, this year there is a conflict with a wedding party at the picnic venue. Really? A wedding party in June?  Oh well, we’re looking at other dates and we’ll send out an email as soon as a final date is confirmed.

The Holiday Dinner-Dance will be held at the Elks Club on Thursday, December 13, beginning at 1830.  The part of the dinner that the detachment has been covering from our own funds has grown significantly so this year we’re going to have to increase the cost per person from $20 to $25.  The good news is that you have ten months to save up the extra $5.
